ISHPES Early Career Scholar award 2021

We are delighted to announce that Daniele Cristina Carqueijeiro de Medeiros is the winner of this year’s award. Daniele is from Brazil  and her paper was entitled “The sportization of rowing and swimming in Tiete river (Sao Paulo, Brazil, 1899-1949)”. Her paper was seen as very interesting, well documented and original given its focus on the local sporting history of Sao Paulo.

Equal second were Tom Fabian of Canada, “Whose National Sport? The Dubious Origins and Reinvented Histories of National sports”, and Remco Beek, “From Pelé’s Soccer to FIFA eWorld Cup: The Rise of Esports in Professional Football”.

Congratulations to the winner, and to all the entrants of the competition for their excellent papers. We hope to see you all in Lisbon at the 2021 ISHPES/CESH conference or online if you cannot travel.

Best wishes and many thanks to all the entrants and to the judges for their excellent work.
